Advocacy Keynote Part 1: Affordable Insulin and Other Things People with Diabetes Need in the Next Round of Health Care Reform

What have we learned from the COVID-19 experience and what do people with diabetes need from the next round of health care reform? There are a lot of questions, and our team is working towards answers. This session is an interactive journey into diabetes advocacy in 2020 and the future. George Huntley and Stewart Perry each have over 25 years of federal and state advocacy experience on behalf of people living with diabetes. They are both past national chairs of the board of the American Diabetes Association and current officers of the National Diabetes Volunteer Leadership Council (www.ndvlc.org), as well as board members of Children with Diabetes.

This first-of-its kind advocacy presentation will walk you through the hidden players in our health care system from public to private and how you, as an advocate, can connect with them. (It’s not always as simple as writing your senator or representative!) Join George Huntley and Stewart Perry for the next part of their advocacy sessions. They will help attendees channel their advocacy passion and frustration into actionable to-do lists with tangible outcomes.

This session is for adults with type 1 diabetes and their significant others, only. No parents or teens are permitted. Due to the personal nature of this session, attendees must have their camera and audio on to participate. This session will not be recorded or shared.

For 71 years, the American Diabetes Association has hosted summer camps for children with Type 1 diabetes across the country. This year, for the first time, we welcomed kids from around the world to ADA Imagine Camp, a virtual program delivered in the safety of our campers’ homes, allowing for new connections, creativity, and education for the whole family. We want to hear from you! As we continue to shape the programs and support we offer to children, families, and young adults living with T1D, your feedback is important, and your recommendations are always so valuable. Please join us as we discuss the past, present, and future of our camp programs, and how we may continue to earn the privilege of serving you and your camper!
