  1. cwdMail is a free, web-based e-mail service provided by Children with Diabetes and sponsored by LifeScan. cwdMail provides a simple web-based interface and rigorous anti-spam filtering to reduce the amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail you receive. Also, your cwdMail address will never be sold or shared with anyone.

  2. EMLA cream is being taken off the market in the US in November 2002 until its product packaging can be made child-resistant.

  3. You can now generate a Quilt for Life Calendar from the Quilt for Life Online Gallery. Create and print the calendars and share them with family, friends, and your elected officials to help remind them why it's important to increase funding for diabetes research.

  4. Looking for holiday cards? Check out DRI's Holiday Kards, where four out of the five card designs were submitted by CWD kids! The cards help support the Diabetes Research Institute, a world leader in research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

New This Week

  1. With winter approaching in the northern hemisphere, people with diabetes are reminded to put some extra glucose tablets and non-perishable food in their cars in case they become stranded or delayed due to bad weather. This is a great use for leftover Halloween candy!

  2. We now have 289 squares in the Quilt for Life. If you haven't made a square, please consider making one.

  10. We're running a Diabetes and Asthma Survey for Professor Shih-Wen Huang, M.D. of the Division of Immunology & Infectious Diseases, Department of Pediatrics, University of Florida College of Medicine.

  11. Dr. Cynthia Schmidt, Assistant Professor of Nursing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, is conducting an online survey for children with type 1 diabetes. The survey will allow children to provide anonymous information about their type 1 diabetes-related self-care activities and their feelings and concerns about having diabetes. Information gained from this survey will provide nurses and other health care professionals with important knowledge which will improve the care they provide to children and adolescents with diabetes. Dr. Schmidt can be reached via e-mail at to answer specific questions.
