Back to Rufus Rufus Visits the Clarke Family

The Clarke Family, New Zealand

Rufus arrived in Canterbury (South Island, New Zealand) on Thursday 2rd August. His journey from Australia took seven days so he was pleased to unpack and get settled in. He was soon introduced to all the teddies and toys of the Clarke household including 3 kiwi cousin 'Rufus' bears.

Rufus slept with Daniel (Michaels older brother) on the first night. His pump broke over night so he had to go back to injections for afew days until Paul (dad) fixed the pump. We enjoyed having a good look at some real pump equipment - i.e., the canula and tubing bit that comes apart - had a bit of a play with it and Rufus was more than happy to show us how it worked.

On Tuesday a lady from a small local paper came round to visit and do a story on the miniature Teddy Bears I (Suzanne - Daniel and Michaels mum) make. She included Rufus in the story so that was good. Things are pretty quite here for Rufus, though I think he is enjoying some quiet time after all his globe trotting. He has happily joined in our family life which at times is a bit chaotic and at others pretty dull and ordinary.

Rufus visited Daniel and Michael's Granny and Grandad's home, where he got to play on some machinery, play amoungst the olive trees, and ride in the trailer. Rufus and the boys had a lovely time there.

On the 24th August Rufus went into Christchurch to stay with the Murray family for a few days and was photographed by the Christchurch Press. He was also taken on a scenic tour and saw some lovely sights.

On Thursday 30th August Rufus arrived back to us ready for the journey up to Auckland (North Island, New Zealand) with myself to present a grant cheque to Bob Elliott who is doing diabetes research. There is a seperate entry for this great trip that Rufus and I really enjoyed.

On Monday Rufus will get into his 'travelling' box and will be sent on to the Wood family of New Zealand. We will spend the next day taking more photos before Rufus goes. We have been very lucky to have Rufus with us for an extended time (due to the Auckland trip) and will miss him but know he will meet lots of other neat families as he continues on his journey.

Bye Rufus, God Bless and take care.
