Today I didn't know that I was going to get Rufus. This morning I got up at 7.30 then at 11.00 we went to collect him from Tracey Meyer. After that we did some shopping and I got a diabetic chocolate for Rufus and I. Then we came home and I was so tired from my Cape tour that Rufus and I had a 2h30min nap. Then I changed him into some cool clothes and we started playing. Not long after that my Grandparent and Aunty and Uncle and 3 cousins came to have a braai and to meet Rufus and we had a ball. Then I changed him and I into our pyjamas and off to bed we went!

This morning Rufus slept in late with me then we got up and got ready to go to church. Normally I go to Sunday School, but this Sunday there wasn't any because of it being the school holidays. We came back home and had lunch. Rufus and I watched some television together and then we went to visit my cousin Michael who had spent the day fishing at Albert Falls Dam and had caught a bass which he was very proud of. Rufus was very impressed by the catch and the way in which my cousin cleaned the fish.

Monday was the first day at home after the weekend and being the holidays we could relax at home. My friend Amber came to visit and we played with Rufus and dressed him into different outfits. We watched videos and also played games which Rufus was part of.

Today we had an early start to the day. Rufus and I got up early to go and visit my friend Kristin. Rufus was introduced to Kristin, Amanda and Michelle. We played hockey, as I have to keep fit to make sure I stay in the "A" hockey team. After work my Mom fetched me and Rufus also came home.

Wednesday morning my Mom was at home. We went to gym together and Melissa (my sister) and I swam while Mom did the circuit upstairs. Rufus had to sit and watch. Thereafter my Mom took Melissa and I to have our ears pierced which I felt rather nervous about, but it turned out to be painless and looked very pretty. We came home, had lunch and then I had to pack my suitcases. Rufus and I were going to sleep for 1 night at Chezney's house. We took Rufus to the movies and had popcorn and cool drink.

Thursday morning was a bright and early start to the day. My Mom fetched me before work from my friend Chezney, and Melissa and I went to visit our cousins Brandon and Warren. We swam and I changed Rufus into his swimming shorts and he sat on a chair near the poolside while we swam. My Aunt has a very large house and there is always lots to do. We watched videos, played computer and pool.

Friday morning we were still at Aunty Lynda's home and Rufus joined in with the day's activities. My Aunty has a young Jack Russell named Flash who made very good friends with Rufus and even tried to carry him away. Fortunately I came to his rescue. We went grocery shopping with my Aunt and Rufus thoroughly enjoyed the outing. We were spoilt with fruit-flavoured ice-lollies. Dad fetched us Friday afternoon after which Rufus and I were exhausted and snuggled into bed early after a busy day.
5 April 2003
Today my special friend Emma came to play. My blood sugars are normally well controlled when I'm excited and happy. Emma and I played computers, as the weather was cloudy. Rufus stayed indoors too.
6 April 2003
My Mom allowed Emma to sleep the night and as the weather is bright and sunny we'll be packing the cooler box and heading towards Midmar Dam. We took our boat and the whole family enjoys skiing. Mom said it would be the last day with Rufus and I certainly found him to be a comfort. Also reading about so many other children who are diabetic made me feel better. Keep up your travels Rufus and be courageous. Remember, being diabetic makes you extra special. God Bless you!
