Back to Rufus Rufus Visits the Viljoen Family

The Viljoen Family - Table View, Cape Town, South Africa
Paige, aged 8 year
Diagnosed October 1997

July 2003

Hello, my name is Paige. I was playing in the park when I saw a car pull up at my house. It was Brittany (my cousin). I ran to my house. I was so excited to see Rufus! Rufus and I played outside. My brother took Rufus on a motorbike ride. That night I dressed Rufus in his pajamas and gave him his food then we watched TV. The next morning I took Rufus to school. My teacher asked if I could tell the class about Rufus as well as another class. I took Rufus to school every morning. I took Rufus everywhere. When I took Rufus to the park my friends came and I brought his suitcase and we played with Rufus.

On Thursday Rufus came to Playball and a girl played with him and we dressed him and gave him a swing. On Friday Rufus said goodbye to my class because during the school holidays he will be leaving.

On Saturday Rufus came shopping with us. We bought something for the computer. Then we went to my other cousin. We played soccer and bike bike. Then we watched TV.

On Sunday we went to the Kingdom Hall. After that we played at home.

On Monday we went watching a show at the library. Rufus enjoyed that very much. We went with my Granny and Brittany. After that we went to Checkers, then to Durbanville on my Mom's deliveries for her Herbalife business. My dog is also called Rufus.

We live nearby the beach and on sunny days we often go for a run on the beach or in the park because I know that exercise helps to keep my sugar level down.

It is always difficult not to eat all the nice things at parties, but Mummy says as long as I don't have fizzy drinks and the very sweet things like fudge, a piece of cake and chips is in order. I always take my own diet cold drinks with to parties.

From Mom

Paige and Brittany are cousins. Paige was diagnosed when she was 2 and a half. She has been doing her own injections since she was 3. We as her family, (Dad Andre, Mom Mercia and brother Auren, age 6) are very proud of her for being such a brave girl. She has learned to take responsibility for her diabetes as much as she can and she does exceptionally well at school. Well-done Paige!

Goodbye Rufus! Come again soon!
