The Silvester Family, Mesa, Arizona
July to September, 2004
Ruby arrived safely here in Mesa, Arizona to visit Rachel Silvester. She is 5 years old and has diabetes since she was 3 1/2 years old. She wears a Cozmo insulin pump.
Rachel says, "I love Ruby because she is nice and fashionable, has earrings, and an ankle bracelet. I have been waiting for so long for her to arrive at my house! Maybe someday I can grow up to be beautiful like Ruby."
Rachel was diagnosed with celiac disease this year in February. Despite the added work due to these two diseases, Rachel is a happy and very healthy girl. She has a guinea pig named Blackberry and takes wonderful care of him.
Rachel loves going to the Children with diabetes conferences, too. When we go to local diabetes support groups, she always says that they aren't as fun as 'the real conferences.' Here's Rachel dressing up! She loves to change clothes and play dress up. Here is Rachel playing with her cousin's dog. She loves animals.
Rachel gave Ruby a pin from Arizona (on her) and a key chain (in the bag). We all wish all who are affected by diabetes the hope and strength to lead happy, healthy lives until that day - so very soon - which there will be a cure.
Love and hugs to you all,
Bonnie, Phil, David, and Rachel
