Back to Rufus Ruby Visits the Mann Family

The Mann Family, Woonsocket, Rhode Island

May 25, 2002
Hi! My name is Adam and I am 8 years old. I got diabetes February 2, 2000. I wear a black MiniMed 508. I started wearing it 6 months after I was diagnosed. My mom wears a teal pump. Ruby came to my house today, 5/25/02. We had to go to the post office to get her. She went shopping with us and met a man with type 2 diabetes.

Ruby is staying at our house for a cookout and she will meet all the relatives.

I brought Ruby to school today and met Adam's friend. I sat on Adam's desk all day. Many of the kids in his class didn't believe how many places I have been and how many more places Ruby plans on visiting. We took Ruby rock-climbing this weekend. She loved going in the caves with us. We went to Purgatory Chasm in Massachusetts.

My mom left today for Washington, D.C. with her girl scout troop. She wanted to take Ruby, but I wanted to stay here with Adam.

I went to Adam's last day of school today.

June 17, 2002
I went to meet the babysitter today and Adam told them all about me and the places I have been. The sitter is very nice.

I leave for New York today. I will miss Adam and the rest of the Mann family!

Bye, Ruby. I'll miss you.

Adam Mann, age 8
