Did you or your child have a yeast infection immediately before diagnosis? Poll dates: June 22 - 29, 2003 Total Votes: 543 Parents often report that their children had yeast infections immediately before their diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. In our poll, over one-third of people reported having a yeast infection immediately prior to their diagnosis. According to Dr. Tessa Leginger, "often a yeast infection is a sign of early diabetes (yeast like to grow in warm, moist areas and sugar also promotes its growth)." Therefore it would seem prudent to have a blood sugar check performed at the doctor's office whenever a child presents with a yeast infection.
