Back to Kid' Voices Sailor

My name is Sailor and I was diagnosed two months before my third birthday, on December 10, 2001. I have been a part of CWD since my first conference in 2002. I started in the childcare and at FFL 2012 I will be a teen. I finally made it to the teens!!

At first it was hard for my family to get used to the changes in our lives because diabetes affects everyone in the family. CWD has been teaching me the tools I need to deal with those challenges and has taught my mom to not freak out so much (thanks to Natalie). I have been an Animas pumper since October 2004 and CGM since 2009. That has helped me to manage my diabetes better.

I live in southern California. Some of the things I like to do is hang out with my friends, play the piano, sing and dance. I also love to bake and will some day train to be a pastery chef in Paris. I have an older sister, Sierra, who has graduated from CWD teens and is now a staff member. I am a Diabetes Diplomoat for DRI and have raised a lot of money to help find a cure.

My whole family is involved in Children with Diabetes. What I like best about the conferences is getting to see my friends that have become my second family and making new ones for life!

Having diabetes is not all bad when I have my CWD family. I have tried not to let diabetes be who I am. Once, when I was little, I heard some adults call me a diabetic. I immediately corrected them by saying "I'm not a diabetic, I'm a little girl with diabetes."

If you are new to CWD and need someone to welcome you to our family, you can email me at .
