Back to Kid' Voices Jackson

Hello my name is Jackson. I am 8 years old. I was diagnosed in October of 2006. I live in Alabama.

I play baseball; I am in the Gifted Resource Class or GRC at school. I am in the 3rd grade.

When I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes the first thing that came to me was that my lips were getting too dry. It started at the zoo I wasn't feeling too well so I rested in my car for the whole trip. When I got home we started watching a football game I didn't watch it because all I wanted to do was sleep. My mom and dad thought I was just sick. But when we went to the doctor she said you have diabetes. I didn't know what diabetes was so I thought it was a sickness. But when we got to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, I was there for 4 days. What shocked me was one day we checked my sugar it was about 800 and I was in Ketoacidosis. I was diagnosed when I was 7 years old. It hasn't affected the way I play baseball or Cub Scouts.

Recently I figured out that I can't have the pump right now because my sugar has been out of whack. I feel bad when I see other people eat stuff I can't have. It makes me mad that I can't have the pump.

I was planning to get the OmniPod. My doctor has told me when my sugar gets better I can have my pump. I can't wait. People at my school ask me does taking shots hurt. I say no but it does sometimes. I have given my own shots since I was diagnosed.

I have one brother and his name is Alex. My dad's name is Leonard, my mom's name is Amanda. I have a dog that is about two years old. His name is Cooper. I also have another dog named Sicily. She has 12 puppies and she's a German shepherd.

My favorite football team is Alabama and my favorite race car driver is Jimmie Johnson. I watch Smack Down which is a wrestling show. My favorite wrestler is the Undertaker. My brother is 6 years old. I would like other kids to write me back at jasvcl AT
