Hello! My name is Kailee. I am six years old and I'm in first grade. A week before Christmas 2006, I got really sick. I threw up a lot and I couldn't eat. We didn't know what was wrong with me. I kept drinking more juice to not be dehydrated. It made me feel worse and I got dizzy. We found my blood sugar was very high. My blood sugar was 1600 (the highest they had seen at the hospital was 1200 in a full grown man) and the doctors said that if I didn't come to the hospital that day, I wouldn't be here.
I have Type 1 Diabetes. At first the needles hurt, but then they didn't feel so bad. Now I do my own finger pricks! I have two sisters and one brother who helped me a lot. My parents went to a class so everyone would know how to take care of me.
I want to say to the other kids who are scared, don't cry. I am like you. Things will get better for you too.
You can email me and my parents at
