Back to Kids' Voices Audrey

Hi. I am Audrey and I am 5 years old. On December 30, 2004 when I was still 4 1/2, we found out I have diabetes.

I get my blood sugar checked 6 to 8 times a day, and I get 5 insulin shots a day. I don't like it at all!

I am starting Kindergarten Wednesday September 7, 2005 and I am very excited! Some things that I like and don't like are:

  • I don't like having diabetes, but I do like the extra snacks!
  • I love to read books and draw pictures or doodles.
  • I like to do arts and crafts and play on monkey bars.
  • I don't like to go to bed at night or take naps.
  • I don't like getting shots or finger pricks.
  • I hope they have inhaled insulin for me soon.

My family and I are doing the JDRF Walk for a Cure together. I have never done it before but I think it will be fun. I have one friend with diabetes that is the same age as me, and I would like more friends that have diabetes.

If you are around the same age as me and have diabetes, you can email my mommy or my daddy at zimmermibig AT and they'll read it to me.

My mommy typed exactly what I told her to type for this and if you email me she'll type my answer for me too.
