Hi, my name is Joy. I am 13 years old. I live in Canada. It is actually pretty cold - in Winter - since we live in Ontario, Canada. I am going into grade 9. Our summer months are really short so it's crazy.
I was diagnosed on December 1st, 2003. I was sick the night before and all I ate was salad and it didn't even taste very good. The next morning (November 30th) I couldn't move. I couldn't even get out of bed to call my mom. When she came down to check on me at either 11:00 or 1:00, I can't remember, she called 911 and yes, I got to go to the hospital - in an ambulance! That was awesome. I was in the hospital for a week and a day. Since I was 11, I did understand diabetes once they told me all about the insulin, testing, carb counting etc. Oh, and by the way, I have type 1 diabetes (or juvenile diabetes).
Now that I am going into High School, I have to become more responsible and believe me. It's hard. Ha-ha. Oh well, I still spend a lot of time chilling with my friends, listening to music, watching TV and everything everyone else does. You can email me at
