Back to Kids' Voices Sultan

Hi my name is Sultan. I am 6 years old and was diagnosed in August 2004. At that time I was 5 and on my summer holiday. My Mom and Dad noticed that I was using the bathroom too often and drinking too much water. My Mom thought it was nothing but my Dad got worried, so they eventually took me to the hospital where they ran some tests and found out that I have diabetes type 1. I was taken to the childrens hospital by ambulance. I spent two nights in the hospital and it wasn't very nice but my grandparents, uncles and aunts all visited me so it was OK.

It was very hard to live with Diabetes at first and my family was very sad but now we are all coping with it. My Mom and Dad give me my shots and they do my tests and they think Im still too young to do it myself. Im hoping to get the pump by next year. I think it will make life easier. My whole family thinks I am very brave and we all thank God everyday because I am healthy and can do anything that I want to do.

I have one sister who is 7 and her name is Zeina. She loves me very much and worries about me all the time. She helps my Mom with my meal plans and tries to remember my snack times. Zeina and I have a cat called Candy and two kittens called Milkshakes and Blacky. We like to play with them all the time. I also like to play playstation, go swimming, and watch Cartoon Network.

I live in Qatar and don't know many children with diabetes, so I would like to receive emails from you at lana_albardawil AT
