Hi! My name is Cecilia and I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was just 3 years old. I was drinking LOTS and LOTS and started wetting the bed overnight. I NEVER did that before. So my mommy, who is a nurse, looked up my symptoms in one of her nursing books and she was worried it was diabetes. So, she and daddy took me to my pediatrician and my blood sugar was 561! We went to the Children's Hospital the next day and met with the team from the Pediatric Diabetes Resource Center. There mommy and daddy learned everything they needed to know to take care of my diabetes.
I am now 6 1/2 years old and in first grade. I am on a Cozmo Insulin pump and love it! Having diabetes is no fun, but at least with the pump it makes things easier. My mom, dad, and 8 year old brother help me a ton and are very supportive. Mom and dad have both put sites in themselves so they can see what it feels like. My mommy is now a nurse at the Pediatric Diabetes Resource Center that we go to. So she is always telling us about the new things with diabetes. I REALLY hope there is a cure someday. We have a family team for JDRF named Ceci and Company and over the last two year we have raised over $25,000! My brother and I think that should be enough to find a cure, but mom and dad say they need lots more. So we will keep raising money and walking until I donít need this insulin pump ANYMORE!
