Hi! My name is Colleen and I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 6 years old. I was always really thirsty and hungry and was going to the bathroom a lot. My parents took me to the doctor who told my parents that I most likely had diabetes. I went to Children's Hospital in Washington D.C. and stayed there for two nights. When I got there, they checked my blood sugar and it was 1,600! The first night, I couldn't eat or drink anything, I could only wet my lips with a damp cloth. Now, I am 13 years old and having been doing great since. I just started taking Lantus and NovoLog and I am going to start using the pump soon and I can't wait!
I love to play field hockey and basketball. I also like to listen to music, bake, draw, go shopping, going to the beach, talking on the computer and phone and hang out with my friends. I love the shows The O.C., The Bachelor and Bachelorette, American Idol, CSI, Without a Trace and Punk'd. Some of my favorite movies are Grease, Dirty Dancing 2, Starsky and Hutch, and many more. I have one older brother, Danny, 25, who is in the Coast Guard and is currently serving in Iraq, an older sister, Lauren, 22, and a younger brother, Patrick who is 10.
When I was younger, I did the Walk For Diabetes in Washington and I also designed a T-Shirt that won 1st prize and money that went towards finding a cure for diabetes. I would love to talk to anyone about diabetes, so if you would like to talk to me, my email address is
dilapidated428[@]netscape.netor my AIM screen name is dilapidated428.
