Back to Kids' Voices Minette

Minette is seven years old and lives in South Africa. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in June 2002 after a long battle (almost a battle that lost her life). The doctors were convinced that all that was wrong with her was the fact that she had viral flu, and only discovered the true problem once she has gone into a coma.

Minette is now coming to terms with her condition and is a lot healthier since the diagnoses, problems like poor eye sight and chronic ear infections have improved unbelievably since her sugar was controlled and she lives as normal life as possible now. Running and playing just like other kids.

Minette has just completed grade 1. She and her family live in Krugersdorp, which is a small town in Gauteng, which boasts the best weather (probably in the world).

Minette has no friends or family who have type 1 diabetes and it would be great for her to communicate with kids who understand her condition and have the same problems as she does.

Minette and her family can be reached via email at aluff[@]
