Back to Kids' Voices Julia

Hi. My name is Julia, and I will be 10 on May 6th. I am in 5th grade in a French immersion school, and I live in Ontario, Canada. I was diagnosed with diabetes on April 9, 2003, just two days after my new sister was born. At first I was really scared because I didn't know what it means, and I didn't want to have finger pokes or injections. I still don't like it, but I'm starting to get used to it now. I will be going to camp this summer and hopefully I will learn how to do my own finger pokes and injections if I get an insulin pen.

I have brother who is 4 years old and his name is Jaret, and my new sister is only a few weeks old and her name is Jeannie. In the winter I like snow boarding and sledding, and in the summer I like horseback riding, skateboarding, rollerblading, and swimming. I play on the town's soccer team and baseball team, and I also take dance lessons. I also play piano and I am learning how to play guitar.

What I don't like the most about having diabetes is that I have to eat, even if I don't want to, and I can't eat as much of the things that I like. Especially at school when they have ice cream days and bake sales.

I don't know anybody else who had diabetes and I'm looking for penpal, so if you want to reach me, you can at julia_ghoolia777[@]
