Hi my name is Will and I am seven years old. I have had diabetes since I was two. I don't remember what life was like before I got diabetes, but I do remember getting shots the first year. I didn't like the shots and used to cry when my mom or dad gave them to me.
When I was three I started on the insulin pump, and boy has that been great! Sometimes I still have a high or a low, but mom says this happens much less than when I was on shots. The pump has also been great for school. I will be in 2nd grade this year and I am able to check my blood sugar in the class, pick a snack and give my own insulin. My mom is a diabetes educator and pump trainer so she has taught the teachers and staff at school all about my diabetes and my pump.
I am very active in a lot of activities. My favorite things are playing soccer and baseball, riding my bike, playing Nintendo,Play Station and XBox, swimming, playing with my animals, playing with legos and Star Wars toys. Someday I want to be a teacher. Most of all I want a cure for my diabetes!
