Back to Kids' Voices Jenni

Hi! My name is Jenni and I am 16 years old. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on May 3, 2002 which is pretty recent. When I was diagnosed all I could do was pray and wonder why me. I am a Christian and I was at a youth rally in Denver for the weekend and all my friends were praying for me. They knew what was going on because I had told them. I was glad to hear that all my friends were behind me when I found out. I was never admitted to a hospital or anything, but I had to get a glucose tolerance test and it took 12 hours to get my results back. I was told that I'd have to diet and exercise and check my blood sugar regularly when I got my meter and all that stuff.

When I had to do the blood sugar for the first time I kind of freaked out because I didn't know what I was really doing. My dad had to bribe me to get me to do it. Well I eventually have gotten used to it, but I realize that if I have full control over my diabetes then I won't have to give myself shots or take pills, but after a while if I continue losing weight they way I have the disease will be gone.

I am used to doing everything now and I think that I am ready to take over this and believe that I can do this even when I'm 18 and out on my own. I still think and pray everyday for the help that I might need and my friends also still pray for me and I'm glad I have such great Christian friends to be there for me when I need it.

If you ever want to email me just go right ahead. It might take sometime but I will email you back. My email is cutejen_14[@] The main thing is to believe in yourself and know that you can do it.
