Back to Kids' Voices Caitlin

Hi! My name is Caitlin (my friends call me Caity) and I live in Queensland, Australia. At the end of November and beginning of December 2001, I lost a lot of weight, was drinking heaps and going to the toilet all the time!

I was diagnosed with diabetes on 11th December 2001, when I was 9 years old. My blood sugar level was 62 mmol/l [1,116 mg/dl] (supposed between 5 - 8)! The doctors told my mum I was lucky not to be in a coma!

I had a drip in my arm and had to stay in hospital for a week! I missed my break up day at school and that made me mad! Mum stayed in the hospital most of the time because she and dad had to have lessons for four days on how to give needles, choose good foods and draw up insulin, etc.

I was glad to come home to my sisters and my dog, just in time for Christmas. If you want to be my e-mail pal just send me a line at bak3 [@]
