My name is Haylee and I live in Pasadena, Texas. I was born in May 2000. I was about 13 1/2 months old when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on June 30th, 2001. I had not been feeling well for a week or two, and that morning my Grandmother Lori, who I call MiMi, realized that I had the symptoms of Diabetic Ketoacidosis. You see my MiMi has had Type 1 diabetes for 20 years. I spent 4 days in the hospital and I was very frightened of the Doctors and Nurses, because they were sticking me with needles a lot. Although I have had diabetes for a short time, I am already quite comfortable with the finger sticks I get several times a day. My Mom (Jaime) has made a game of it and it makes it very easy to do. My shots don't bother me much either. I will soon realize that the Doctors and Nurses were just trying to make me better.
My PawPa (Wayne) has arranged for Ruby, the Bear with Diabetes, to pay me a visit sometime in the future. I look forward to showing her around Pasadena where I live, and Alvin where my MiMi and Pawpa live. I hope when I get a little older I can go on an insulin pump and get a GlucoWatch. Now that I am controlling my blood sugar levels, I am back to my old self and enjoy playing on my gym that is at my MiMi's house. I also love riding my horse. It not real of course.

My Pawpa wrote this for me, because I can not type yet.
This picture was taken about 2 weeks before my diagnosis
