Hello, my name is Ahmed Aatef Elbassioney and this picture shows me and my brother Ibrahim. I am 7 years old. I am in the third primary language school in Cairo, Egypt. I have been diabetic for 5 years and discovered diabetes when I have severe polyuria and polydipsia for one week and I wet the bed after was potty trained. Then I become to drowsy. That's when they discovered, after entering the hospital, that I am diabetic.

They gave me insulin and .I.V. fluids and I stayed for 10 days in the hospital. We were sad, but we learned about diabetes. I never entered hospital again because now I take insulin by Novopen 3 and check my blood sugar using a One-Touch machine.

In the beginning my mother, who is pediatrician, made for my every injection of insulin and measure of blood and glucose, but now I can inject myself by insulin pen very easily and measure my blood glucose by machine and write the result in my notebook. Sometimes I become very angry when my blood glucose is low and refuse taking food and after time when I am good I become sorry I do so, and decided not to return back to being angry and refused food again.

I pray for god 5 times a day because I am Muslim, and I thank God for everything he gave to me (my mother, my father, my brother, and all my family as they are kind with me like my grandfather, my grandmother, and my uncle Hisham). I also succeeded in the examination in the school this year with 97%. I also read the Koran well.

I am happy now. I love to write to and share with all children with diabetes their dreams and hopes. I hope all children diabetes become happy also. If you want to send an e-mail to me to me, send to my mother's e-mail address or to my uncle's e-mail
