Hi, my name is Allison Marshall. I will be 12 in July. I have had diabetes since August 1998. I went on the pump in December of 1999. I love the pump. I have a blue Minimed 508. It is great. It allows me to be able to eat things I didn't used to eat. But my mom still makes me eat healthy! You know green vegetables and all. Yuck! It also doesn't matter if I am playing and don't want to come in and eat right then. Sometimes when I am with my friends we don't like to be on a schedule and the pump has helped a bunch!
I have a younger sister named Katie. She is 9 years old. My mom homeschools both of us. This is my 4th year of homeschool. We aren't sure what I will do next year. I like sports a lot and would like to play school sports.
I play softball. We play fast pitched. It is fun and we usually have a good team. My main position is 2nd base, but sometimes I pitch. I have played softball (or baseball) since I was 4 years old.
I also play basketball. We just finished our regular season (in rec league). Our team came in 3rd place. Not too bad. We only lost 2 games. Now I am playing AAU basketball. It is a lot of fun. You play in tournaments all over. We are not doing so hot, but we are a young team. The others teams seem to be so much bigger than us! Even though they are in the same age group. Maybe we will get better! We certainly practice enough!
Last but not least I really like to run. I am not the fastest in the world, but I can beat just about anybody on distance. I can run for a long time without stopping! When everyone else is falling over dead, I am just trucking along! It is a good thing I like to run, because my softball coach (dad) and my basketball coach always seem to make us run a BUNCH!
The pump has been great with sports. I usually just leave it on at practice, but take it off during games. It hasn't been a problem yet. Every now and then the tape will loosen up, because of the sweating.
I am a Christian and love church. We do lots of stuff with our 6th grade Sunday school class. We go lots of fun places and have good times learning about God and spending time with our friends.
I like having friends spend the night and going places with me!
Well, I guess that is about it about me!
