My name is Dominick and I am five years old. I live in Pennsylvania. I have one older sister who is seven and I also have one younger sister who just turned two. We also have another baby on the way. I was diagnosed with the diabetes on January 5, 1999.
My mommy found out that I had diabetes because she noticed that I was drinking a lot and going to the bathroom a lot also. The thing that really got my mom to take me to the doctor was on Christmas eve. We went to my Great Aunt's house, which is two hours away. Well, we had to stop at least five times before we even got home that night.
My mom took me to the doctor and that's when they told her that I have diabetes. My blood sugar was 756. I only stayed in the hospital for 24 hours though. My mom and Dad were great about the whole thing. My mom cried a lot in the beginning (but never in front of me).
I don't like getting my finger poked but I know it is something that has to be done. I also started pushing in the insulin. My mom still has to put the needle in. I also started to take my shots in my belly. I was very scared at first but it is getting easier as the days go by.
If anyone would like to E-Mail my mommy our address [email protected]
