Back to Kids' Voices Angie
Hey! My name is Angela, known to most as Angie. I am 11 years old, and born in February 1988. I live in New York and I have diabetes. I have had diabetes for 3 years. My mom noticed that I was acting funny, like going to the bath room a lot. She asked my diabetic uncle to test me. I was 578! My uncle said that if that was him, he would be in the hospital, in a coma!

Diabetes runs in my family. My mother's brother (the one who tested me) has diabetes, as well as his daughter. My uncle's daughter, Kristina, (who is my cousin) was only 5 when she became diagnosed. Kristina's uncle also has diabetes. My mother's sister has diabetes too!

Diabetes doesn't stop me at all! I am on a soccer team, and a basketball team. When I am low, I just eat or drink something and get right back going! My friends don't care I have diabetes, but then again, why should they?

Speaking of friends, let me tell you about my crazy group of them! Katy, Lisa, Lauren, Lauren, and my cousin Jessica are my best friends. We are all hyper and crazy. We don't really have a "best friend", it is a group of them.

I like to read, write, dance, sing, and play sports. My favorite thing to do is any type of art. When I grow up I want to be an artist, a doctor or a veterinarian. I love animals and have a dog named Rexy.
