Hi. My name is Nicole. I live in Fresno, California. My whole family lives in New York, except my aunt who is a therapist and also works for the county. My mom's name is Jackie and my cat's name is Sebastian. My parents have been divorced for six years, going on seven. I was diagnosed with diabetes a couple months ago. We thought i had it when we were in New York because my mom had opened up a newspaper and had found an article on juvenile diabetes and I had all the symptoms. When we got back from New York we went to the doctor and tested my blood and I was at a very critical condition. My blood sugar was 698. That's when we found out. I'm not the only one in my family who has diabetes. my Uncle Wayne found out that he may get diabetes later on in his life. He's in the diabetes prevention trial program now. My Uncle Kevin got diabetes when he was 13 years old, and now he's 29.
My best friend's name is Sarah and we're both in fifth grade. Friends can be a real help with diabetes. When I found out I was diabetic I was crying but now I found out it's not so bad at all because I can still have sleep overs, I can still eat some junk food and I also play soccer and I'm still the same sweet person I was before I was diagnosed. I guess life's not always the way you want it to turn out, but you need to learn to learn to make the best of things and look at the positive not always the negative. Right!
