Children with Diabetes Foundation Announces Ambassador Team Scholarship

The Children With Diabetes Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of this year's ambassador team scholarship, which will enable an international family and their diabetes care provider to attend the CWD Conference in Orlando, Florida. Although each of the ambassador teams that applied was exceptional, the foundation was only able to fund one team because most donations are earmarked for research.

Mate Rozgonyi from Hungary along with his parents and physician, Dr. László Blatniczky, M.D., PhD, will receive the scholarship assistance award this year from the foundation. They have already been active in a number of volunteer efforts and support groups in their home country, and they are excited about sharing the information they will learn at the conference with other families when they return to Hungary. They are particularly interested in insulin pump technology, which is virtually nonexistent in their country, and they would like to translate Understanding Insulin Dependent Diabetes by H. Peter Chase, M.D., aka "The Pink Panther Book" into Hungarian so more families can benefit from the most up to date information on managing diabetes in children.

The Foundation is equally pleased that through the generosity of Brazilian Air, Sonia Souto, her son, Ricardo, and their physician will be able to join us from Brazil.

Although it was disappointing not to be able to fund all of the teams who applied, we were deeply impressed with the dedication to volunteerism and outreach in their community that each applicant team demonstrated, and we applaud their efforts. We also would like to encourage and honor all of the international families who are considering attending by hosting a special catered luncheon for this group at the conference. We anticipate that it will provide an opportunity for the families to interact, learn about the latest developments in diabetes care and for the children to make international friends. A special session is also planned to assist those interested in furthering their outreach efforts.
