Contact Your Representative and/or Senator Regarding NIH Funding
June 25, 1997

If your U.S. Representative or one of your U.S. Senators is a member of the House Appropriations or Senate Appropriations Committee, you need to respond to this JDF Legislative Alert immediately. If your Representative/Senator is not a member of one of these Committees, you do not need to respond today. However, keep checking back to this site for future Alerts.


The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education is scheduled to mark-up their version of the Fiscal Year 1998 Labor, HHS and Education appropriations bill, which provides funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), on July 8th. The corresponding Senate Subcommittee is scheduled to mark-up their version of the bill sometime in mid to late July. Following each respective Subcommittees' mark-up, the bill is expected to be immediately marked-up by the full House and Senate Appropriations Committees.

This means it is critical for you to contact your Representative and/or Senator, who sits on the House or Senate Appropriations Committee, by July 7th, urging them to appropriate, at a minimum:
