Jonny White and Tom Baxter

Jonny White

Jonny has had type 1 diabetes since he was fifteen years old and has been determined not to let the disease hold him back from any challenge. In 2006, he cycled the length of Africa with Tour D'Afrique over a period of 4 months. From Cairo, through Egypt to Cape Town, the total distance traveled was approximately 12,000 kilometers. His passion for life is sparked by his work and study in motivating individuals to push their boundaries. He is currently a doctoral student in Media Psychology at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California. He is also currently working on creating a documentary that follows his experiences in Africa.

Tom Baxter

Diagnosed at the age of 3 with type 1 diabetes, Tom definitely demonstrates that not even the challenges of a disease can hold you back from pursuing your goals and interests. Tom joined Jonny in Zambia to cycle the final 3000 kilometers of Africa. He is currently in Medical School at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Sports and adventures have always been important to Tom and they have included teaching English in Japan, climbing Mt. Fuji, playing hockey and long-distance running.

Both Jonny and Tom are founders of C2C Adventure, Cycling Africa for Diabetes. Their hopes are to inspire others to overcome perceived limitations, raise awareness about diabetes and raise funds for diabetes research.
